Pros hit the beach at Queen's
The timing was perfect for Cayley Thurlby.
Last Sunday, the former Hawaii reserve setter was able to play in her first alumnae match. Tomorrow, she and former Rainbow Wahine teammate Ashley Watanabe pair up for the Corona Light EVP World Championship at Queen's Beach.
It will be the second beach event this season for Thurlby, who teammed with her younger sister Chelsea in the AVP Tour stop in Chicago in August. Thurlby played indoors professionally in Spain for four months earlier this year.
"I like the beach better, it's more dynamic," she said.
Also competing on the women's side are former Wahine Tanja Nikolic, partnered with Alexia Lopez, and Chastity Nobrigra, teaming with Lia Young Hunt (Mid-Pacific/Santa Clara). Others with Hawaii ties in the draw are Dawn Penebacker and Bert Hayashi.
Among the men's teams is the duo of former UH middle Dio Dante and Justin Harris.
Play begins at 8 a.m.
