'Boys roll to victory over Sharks
Waikiki punched out 15 hits and took advantage of five Honolulu errors en route to a 13-9 victory yesterday in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Field.
Michael Wilson drilled his fourth home run of the season for the BeachBoys, a grand slam in the third inning. Wilson, a Seattle Mariners prospect, raised his batting average to .354 with two hits.
Lucas Duda and Jose Coronado chipped in by driving in two runs apiece for Waikiki.
Josh Sullivan, who struck out four through four innings, earned the win in the seven-inning game.
Heavy rain canceled HWB's West Oahu vs. North Shore night game.
Bartels advances in Peru contest
Hawaii's Melanie Bartels won her first-round heat against Samantha Cornish and Amee Donohoe in the Mancora Peru Classic yesterday.
Bartels advanced to the contest's third round.
Megan Abubo, another Hawaii surfer, also advanced to the third round by placing second in her heat at the Association of Professionals World Championship Tour contest.
Two others from Hawaii, Rochelle Ballard and Leilani Gryde, placed third in their heats and will compete in the second round.
Wahine finish sixth in Kapolei
Hawaii finished in sixth place at the Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course yesterday.
Xyra Suyetsugu led the Rainbow Wahine with a 1-over 73 on the final day. She tied for 11th, individually, at 8-over 224
Two UCLA golfers shared medalist honors -- Tiffany Joh, Maria Jose Uribe -- at 1-over 217.
UCLA also took the team title.
Seasiders defeat Antelopes in soccer
Brigham Young-Hawaii blanked Grand Canyon 2-0 in a women's soccer match in Laie.
The Seasiders (12-6-1, 9-2) got goals from Natasha Aiono and Hailey McKee to drop the Antelopes (4-13-2, 4-6-1).
» Grand Canyon's men's team defeated BYUH 2-0 yesterday in Laie with goals by Daniel Dabillon and Albert Escovar.
The Antelopes improved to 11-4-4 and 8-0-1, while the Seasiders dropped to 9-9 and 5-4.
» Dixie State (Utah) defeated Hawaii Pacific 2-0 in women's soccer yesterday at Kaneohe.
McCall Ryneearson and Lataya Shaffer had the goals for Dixie State (15-3-1, 9-1-1).
The Sea Warriors dropped to 3-14 and 2-9.
» Notre Dame de Namur beat Chaminade 3-1 in men's soccer in Honolulu.
The Silverswords' only goal was an own-goal when the Notre Dame de Namur goalie misplayed a ball.
Chaminade finished its season 2-16-1.
» In a women's match at Honolulu, Erin Morrison and Catherine Ponce scored for Notre Dame de Namur in a 2-0 win over Chaminade.
The Argos improved to 7-11-1 overall, while the Silverswords dropped to 0-15 overall and 0-12 in the PacWest.
