UH instructor wins filmmaking grant
Connie M. Florez, a lecturer and instructor at the University of Hawaii-Manoa's Academy for Creative Media,
was one of five winners of the second annual Women in Film and the General Motors Corp.'s 2007 Acceleration Grant for Emerging Filmmakers. The prize was a six-day mentorship to meet with professionals in the industry.

Sherry P. Broder received the Cox Price Human Rights Award from the University of Denver Law School for contributing to the dignity and well-being of humanity.
Karen Radius, Oahu Family Court judge, received the Jurist of the Year Award from the state Judiciary. She presides over the Oahu Girls Court program and founded the Juvenile Drug Court and Kids First, an education program for divorcing parents and their children.
Peter Young, former chairman of the state Board of Land and Natural Resources, received the Hawaii Audubon Society's President's Award for his conservation efforts in Hawaii and the Pacific.
The society gave its Environmental Award to the Hawaii Conservation Alliance and its Conservation Award to Scott Fretz, Wildlife Program manager for the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
