Doctors help Special Olympics athletes
Eight physicians performed free health screenings for new
Special Olympics Hawaii athletes at the organization's second MedFest at Manoa District Park.
Joining the event's medical directors, Dennis Rowe and Susan Stewart of Kaiser Permanente, to examine students from five schools Friday were:
U.S. Navy Drs. Warren Frey, Charles Gould and George Sakakini; U.S. Air Force Dr. John On; Kaiser Permanente Dr. Lance Shirai; and Rosemary Chang, in private practice.
The Hawaii United Okinawa Association honored Violet Ogawa, Katsumi Shinsato, Maurice Yamasato, Wally Yonamine and the Rev. Chikai Yosemori for their contributions to the Okinawan community and Hawaii.
Chris Winn was named associate dean of marine science programs in Hawaii Pacific University's College of Natural Science. In his new position, Winn will support Alissa Arp, HPU vice president for research, with fundraising and development of the university's marine campus at Oceanic Institute.
The Kahumana Community Center received $10,000 from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation to buy new furnishings for its residential facilities.
