100th Infantry vets to hold art sale
Artists who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion in World War II will show their talent in an art show and sale to benefit the group's planned education resource and research learning center.
The "First Annual Gallery One Puka Puka Art Show Sale" includes works by veterans such as woodworker Bernard Akamine, painters Arthur Komiyama and Seisaburo Taba, calligrapher Robert Sato and flower crafter Ed Ikuma. Other highlights include a craft fair and silent auction.
The sale will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the 100th Infantry Battalion Clubhouse, 520 Kamoku St. in Moiliili. For more information, call 946-0272.

Oyster fans, come out of your shell
It's not just oysters at "Oyster Jam III" at 3660 on the Rise, but the succulent shellfish will be well represented at the carnival-style event, noon to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
Oysters from the East and West coasts, Canada and New Zealand will be on the table, plus Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo, Prime Rib Hoagies, Fish Fry and Coleslaw, and more. Desserts, wines and beer will also be poured.
Scrip will be sold to buy food. Also at 3360, Siu hosts his final cooking class of the year, 6 p.m. Nov. 8. The menu: Minestrone Soup with Pesto, Penne Pasta with Ground Chicken, Mini Osso Buco and Strawberries with Chilled Sabayon. Cost is $53, which includes a serving of all dishes and wines.

Tiki's celebrates with special menu
Tiki's Grill & Bar is offering a fifth-anniversary three-course menu through Oct. 29.
Chef Kapolanialaimaka Kealoha's menu: appetizer choice of Spinach Salad with Sour Apple or Kalua Pig Gnocchi, entree choice of Whole Steamed Short Tail Red Snapper or Tiki's Surf & Turf Special (steak and king crab legs) and dessert choice of Guava Cheesecake Wrapped in White and Dark Chocolate or Crunchy Pumpkin Cheesecake. Cost is $39.95.
Also, Tiki's will throw itself a birthday party from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with $3 drink specials, pupu and live bands.

Willows showcases a very pricey beer
A beer that costs $200 a bottle -- can you imagine?
The Willows' Boston Beer Co. dinner on Friday at the Willows will feature Samuel Adams Utopias, with its $200-plus price tag, and a five-course meal paired with other Samuel Adams beers.
Beer expert Andy Baker hosts the event and Lili Hess of of Boston Beer Co. will explain each beer.
Chef Jay Matsukawa's menu: Calamari Frito & Parmeggiano Reggiano Salad (with Samuel Adams Light), Pan-Roasted Duck & Cranberry Gastrique (Boston Lager), Seafood & Chorizo Paella (Brown Ale), Wagyu Beef Pot Roast (Black Lager) and dessert of Macerated Berries & Vanilla Sabayon "Smore" (Honey Porter).

Wine dinner is on tap at Indigo
Winemaker Eileen Crane and chef Glen Chu team up for a Domaine Carneros Winery Wine Dinner, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Indigo Eurasian Bistro.
The menu includes Tart Fine of Violet Artichokes (with Domaine Carneros "Le Reve" Brut Sparkling, 2000), Roasted Duck on Basmati Rice (Pinot Noir, 2005), Slow Roasted Beef with Bonbon of Foie Gras ("Famous Gate," 2004), Big Island Vanilla Panna Cotta and Marinated Maui Strawberries (Michele Chiarlo "Nivole" Moscato d'Asti, 2006).
