Kakaako Kitchen cooks up benefit featuring bean soups
When it comes to Portuguese Bean Soup, there are a few rules. Must have beans is one. But otherwise, much variety is allowed. Expected, even.
Cabbage? Potatoes, macaroni or both? Extra carrots? What kind of sausage? And, of course, the exact blend of seasonings.
Kakaako Kitchen celebrates the diversity of bean soup in a cook-off at 5:30 p.m. Sunday to Benefit Girl Scouts of Hawai'i.
Cost is $10 to taste all the entries, plus a tasting of two beers courtesy Heineken and Coors Light. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Contestants have been drawn from Honolulu businesses. Call 596-7488.
