West Oahu defeats Waikiki in HWB
The West Oahu CaneFires (2-5) smashed 15 hits, including a two-run homer by Josh Bell, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Waikiki BeachBoys (4-3).
CaneFires starter Steve Johnson earned his first win of the season, going five innings and allowing only two hits.
The BeachBoys were led by Michael McKenry, who smacked a two-run homer in the ninth.
Rainbow Wahine tie Waves
The University of Hawaii soccer team salvaged a 1-1 tie in its match against Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif., yesterday.
Ambree Ako scored the game-tying goal with less than 11 minutes remaining in regulation off a cross from Nicole Mikula.
Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper Kori Lu finished with eight saves.
Hawaii returns home to open Western Athletic Conference play against Nevada on Friday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
HPU sweeps Chaminade in soccer
The HPU men's soccer team defeated Chaminade 3-0, and the Lady Sea Warriors routed the Silverswords 5-0 at Kaneohe.
In the men's match, Akihide Adachi of the Sea Warriors tallied two assists and Max Anton scored in the 66th minute to lead HPU.
In the women's match, Ashley Dolan and Tati Tibbits scored two goals apiece for the Sea Warriors.
