Bank offers 5 students $5,000 in aid
American Savings Bank awarded $5,000 each to five recipients of its American Scholars Program pursuing a college education. The amount is renewable for four years.
This year's winners are Misty Nakayama, a Kamehameha Schools graduate from Molokai; Deisha Lei Pico, a Molokai High graduate; and Melissa Ruan, a Moanalua High graduate.
Two recipients from 2006, Janice Nguyen of Farrington High and Xiaomeng Hu of Moanalua High, also have renewed their college scholarships.
Hillary Ann Wei Yan Wilson-Yue, a first-year student at DePauw University in Indiana, was awarded a full-tuition Rector Scholarship in recognition of her exceptional scholarship and character. Wilson-Yue, of Kailua, graduated from Kalaheo High School in 2007.
State Rep. Marilyn Lee (D, District 38) has been elected to the executive board of the Women's Legislative Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures. The network includes all 1,733 female state legislators across the country.
