McKenna enters Kamehameha I Order
Mike McKenna, a Windward auto dealer, was installed into the
Royal Order of Kamehameha I in August. The order, created in 1865 to uphold the protocols of traditional Hawaiian leadership, bestowed the honor on McKenna for donating more than $1 million to Hawaii schools.
The Maui-raised businessman has also given 28 free cars for prizes at local high school Project Grad parties to encourage alcohol- and drug-free graduation events.
A painting of Ho'okena Beach by Kailua-Kona resident Larry Morez will be in the AARP Foundation's 2008 calendar for the month of July. His entry was selected from more than 300 submissions. The acrylic painting was auctioned off with other winning entries at the AARP Life@50+ National Event & Expo in Boston in early September.
Life Care Center of America named Ka Punawai Ola, a skilled-nursing facility in Kapolei, the Facility of the Year regional award winner for the Mountain States Division. The division includes 28 facilities in Hawaii, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming, which are among the center's 220-plus branches in 28 states.
