Ken Longenecker has received a heartwarming $100 donation from a 9-year-old with the cool name of
Nevada Whiteside, who lives in -- you guessed it -- Nevada. Her check arrived with the wish that the money would be used to help save endangered Hawaiian monk seals. Nevada spent her summer selling lemonade to thirsty golfers on the fairway next to her Reno home. With temperatures topping 100 degrees, business was good. Nevada learned about the endangered monk seals in Hawaii while doing research for her second-grade school assignment at Hunter Lake Elementary. Frank De Lima will have guests laughing at Sacred Hearts Academy's scholarship fund gala Friday at the Hilton Coral Ballroom. Sacred Hearts alums
Lorna Leong Daniels, Edna Lardizabal Hussey and
June Chu will be honored as outstanding graduates. De Lima's three sisters attended the school, so he's sure to have fun stories about their school days. He also knows honoree Hussey from their days together in the Catholic Youth Organization.
