Kona group awards student scholarships

The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary awarded $10,000 in scholarships to four students showing a strong commitment to nursing: Leah Hooper, Stephanie Irwin, Maria Nora and Chanel Volpicelli.

Kamehameha Schools won four awards from the Society of Technical Communications for its publication "Ka Huaka'i 2005 Native Hawaiian Educational Assessment," in international and national categories.

The University of Hawaii-Manoa chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society has been recognized by their organizations for outstanding community service. The chapter achieved the highest gold status given by the global organization, which has 335 chapters around the world.

The Mensa Education & Research Foundation has awarded the Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship to Courtney Kandler of Honolulu, a 2007 Kaiser High School graduate. Tied for second place were graduates Gregory Woronovich of Waiakea High in Hilo and Roydan Ongie of Iolani School in Honolulu.
