BEAUTIFUL IN BASIC BLACK: Celebrity guest of honor Barbara Carrera chatted with Hawaii filmmaker Edgy Lee as the 2007 Cinema Italiano in Hawaii film festival opened with a reception at the Ferrari/Maserati Showroom on Thursday. Lee said later that seeing Carrera doing television and major films inspired her to persevere with her own career goals.

Parrent and the Cinema Italiano staff brought out a cake to commemorate Tagawa's birthday shortly before the crowd walked over to the Honolulu Academy of Arts for the screening of "Golden Door (Nuovomondo)."

The film festival concludes today with screenings of "When Do the Girls Show Up? (Ma Quando Arrivano Le Raggase?)" at 1:30 p.m. and "Manual of Love (Manuale D'Amore)" at 7:30 p.m. at the arts academy.

SOMETHING NEW AT CHANEL: Candes Meijide Gentry, left, Judy Allen, Gail Myers, Nora Meijide-Gentry and Willow Chang were among guests who enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails at a private screening of a short film, "Coco Mademoiselle," at Chanel Waikiki on Thursday. The film combines "making of ..." footage with a finished commercial introducing Keira Knightly as the new face of the fragrance Coco Mademoiselle. The $240,000 white-gold-and-diamond Dentella de Camelia cuff that Knightly wears in the film was displayed during the party and throughout the weekend.
