Celebrate Brazilian Independence Day with two Oahu performances by California band Sambada (pictured) and special guest Radio Active from Spearhead. With almost a decade of experience making music together, the seven-piece band celebrates the roots of Afro-Brazilian song and dance while maintaining a universal appeal. Tickets for both concerts are $22 at the door; Friday's show is all ages, while Saturday's is for the 21-and-over crowd.

The sights and sounds of underground hip-hop will take over rRed Elephant once again, when the Lightsleepers host another installment of "Trip the Lights" at the Chinatown coffee shop, from 1 to 5 p.m. On tap is another beat battle with producers Laels Beats, Obese Jesus, Humbrumin, EK, DJ Cozy and Robs Beats; Parlous, FatSoul, Nabahe and Kavet the Catalyst will also perform. $10 gets you in to the all-ages event.
