21 isle schools awarded after test results
The
Harold K.L. Castle Foundation awarded $10,000 each to 21 Hawaii schools for excellent improvement on Hawaii State Assessment reading exams by third-graders from 2003 to 2006.
The statewide grants came from the foundation's Na Alaka'i Ho'ona'auao Reading Leadership Awards program.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa has donated $10,000 in scholarships to seven college students who are children of its employees.
They are:
Farrah Truong, Marjorie Bocalbos and Patricia Hu, now attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Herman Ing, Creighton University; Allison Reilly, St. Louis University; Dyan Bautista, Kapiolani Community College; and Marie Grace Antonio, Hawaii Pacific University.
The third annual $1,000 Josh Jerman Realtor Maui Scholarships went to Deisha Lei M. Pico and Frank C.K. Borden Jr., graduates of Molokai High School; Nitasha Stiritz of Baldwin High; and Kuulei Salzer of King Kekaulike High. They all expressed plans to use their college education to benefit the Maui community.
