Wong credits staff on 8th anniversary
A
lan Wong supervised food preparation in the kitchen before joining the crowd attending the eighth anniversary of his Pineapple Room in Macy's Ala Moana Sunday. "It's a tribute to the staff," Alan said of the successful eight years. "They make it happen every day and they have brought us here -- eight years." Alan made his first ice carvings in 20 years for the party. "I learned how to carve ice before I could fry an egg," he said.
Alice Inoue, Alan's fiancée, said she liked the two love birds with a heart best. That figures. Alan said working on the heavy ice carvings ruined his golf game. Sounds like he is angling for strokes from his golfing buddies. Alan said he learned ice carving in cooking school at Kapiolani Community College.
Carol Hoshiko, KCC dean of culinary arts, was a party guest.
Hitomi Gilliam's magnificent flower arrangements decorated the room.
