Six-year-old James Medeiros of Kailua tried on a paniolo hat yesterday during the annual Portuguese Festa celebrating Portuguese culture at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion. Many of the paniolos in Hawaii's history were of Portuguese decent, and at right are brands bearing their names, such as Antone Teves and his late son, Herman "Freckles" Teves.
