Starwood cash will fix Lahainaluna stage
Lahainaluna High School is getting a $58,000 donation from
Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas and
Starwood Vacation Ownership Inc., a division of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.
The donation, to be presented tomorrow, will fund several projects, including upgrades to the performing arts facilities and repairs to the school's library.
Most of the money will go toward the renovation of the school's outdoor stage, home of the annual David Malo Day cultural celebration.
A University of Hawaii at Manoa alumnus has received honorable mention in the 2006-2007 awards for outstanding electrical or computer engineering students by the Eta Kappa Nu honor society.
Monte Watanabe's selection identifies him as one of the top three electrical or computer engineering students in the nation. Watanabe graduated in May with a bachelor's degree.
The nearly 200 chapters of Eta Kappa Nu, the honor society for electrical and computer engineers, each can nominate one student for the Alton B. Zerby and Carl T. Koerner award. Of the five finalists this year, one winner and two honorable mentions were selected.
