Famed rock drummer Appice will join HPU band downtown
In rock drum circles, Carmine Appice is a legend.
He helped bring the "heavy" to late-1960s rock with Vanilla Fudge. That group and Appice's next band, Cactus, influenced many groups that came after.
When the drummer is not busy touring with re-formed versions of Vanilla Fudge and Cactus, Appice is a renowned clinician, and he'll be visiting the downtown Hawaii Pacific University campus Friday to talk story, conduct a drum clinic and, best of all, jam with the Sea Warrior Band from 1 to 3 p.m. at the mauka end of Fort Street Mall.
