White Stripes concert canceled
Talk about your sudden elation and crashing disappointment.
The announcement was made Monday that The White Stripes would perform next month at the Blaisdell Arena, only to be followed yesterday by word that the band was canceling the rest of its tour, including the Hawaii date.
Tickets were scheduled to start selling Friday.
While promoter Tom Moffatt's office was still trying to find out the reason for the cancellation yesterday, the Austin American-Statesman reported that the band's headlining gig at the Austin City Limits Festival Saturday was canceled for medical reasons.

'Top Chef' contestant makes isle stop
When last we saw him -- a week ago -- Dale Levitski wasn't doing so great on Bravo's "Top Chef" competition. The judges didn't like his cheeseless cheese puff (made with yogurt to meet his limited budget).
But he wasn't cut, and thus lives to cook another day. First, though, a trip to Hawaii, where he will be a guest chef at Hank's Haute Dogs. His challenge: to create a signature preparation for a new "Kobe" dog made with Waygu beef from Australia.
Levitski, 34, worked in Chicago's Trio restaurant, owned by Henry Adaniya, who now owns Hank's. His appearance will inaugurate Hank's new Sunday hours.
Meet him and taste his creation from 11 to 5 p.m. at the tiny restaurant, 324 Coral St. Call 532-4265. (Catch him on "Top Chef," where he's among the final six contestants, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, with repeats through the night.)
