Blanchard surfs to win in Spain

Hawaii surfer Alana Blanchard won the Rip Curl Girls Pro Junior surf contest yesterday in Liencres Beach in Spain.

With the victory, the 17-year-old earned a wild-card entry into the first round of the Rip Curl Girls contest in Spain, the fourth of seven stops on the Association of Professionals World Championship Tour. The holding period starts tomorrow.

Blanchard beat three surfers from France in today's final, Pauline Ado, Laetitia Sudre and Lea Mengual. She had a two-wave score of 14.16 points out of a possible 20.

Alana Blanchard of Kauai earned a spot on surfing's biggest tour yesterday with a win in Spain.

Tritons roll over Sea Warriors

UC San Diego defeated Hawaii Pacific 5-0 yesterday in a soccer match at Kaneohe.

Alexia Zatarain scored two goals and assisted on another to help give the Tritons (2-0) a 4-0 first-half lead.

The Sea Warriors dropped to 0-3.
