DEMONSTRATORS PROTEST MARINES' PROJECT AT BELLOWS JAMM AQUINO / JAQUINO@STARBULLETIN.COM
Several dozen people demonstrated along Kalanianaole Highway yesterday in protest of construction by the Marines of an urban warfare training site at Bellows Air Force Station in Waimanalo. A man named Kaulahea (no last name given) flew a Hawaiian flag upside down, symbolizing a nation in distress, as cars passed. Community members say the Marines never informed them about plans for the training site. The Marines said the community might not have been informed because there will not be an increase in the number of troops training at Bellows.
