Seasiders win tournament opener
Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Sonoma State 31-29, 30-20, 30-23 in the opener of the Hawaii Invitational Tournament women's volleyball tournament last night.
The Seasiders improved to 3-2.
Vulcans get first victory after 3 losses
Hawaii-Hilo defeated Cal State Chico 1-0 in men's soccer yesterday in Hilo.
Dustin Daley, on a pass from Drew Geis, scored the lone goal for the Vulcans (1-3).
» The Hawaii-Hilo women's soccer team defeated Central Washington 3-0 yesterday in Hilo.
Karissa Robertson led the Vulcans (2-2) with a goal and an assist. Cherise Lee and Ashley Werner also scored for UH-Hilo.
» Concordia defeated Brigham-Young Hawaii 2-1 in a women's soccer match yesterday in Laie.
Jill Haar scored the only Seasiders' goal after taking a pass from Kristina Nibley.
» Embry-Riddle blanked Chaminade 5-0 yesterday in women's soccer in Honolulu. Cindy Jenkins and Ella Naber scored two goals each to lead the visitors.
» In a men's match in Honolulu, Embry-Riddle edged Chaminade 3-2. Marvin Mendoza scored both goals for the Silverswords.
Whitford wins Nanook Invitational
Brigham Young-Hawaii's Amanda Whitford placed first in the Nanook Invitational cross-country race in Fairbanks, Alaska, yesterday.
Whitford finished the 6-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 26 seconds and won by 23 seconds.
BYU-Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific and Alaska-Fairbanks all participated in dual meets against each other.
» In men's cross-country dual meets, Hawaii Pacific topped BYUH 24-31, but the Seasiders beat Alaska-Fairbanks 28-29.
Golden Harper of the Seasiders won the 8K race in 27:22.
