Shoji honored by FIVB
Punahou School senior Erik Shoji was named the best defender and the best libero as the FIVB Boys Youth World Championship concluded Sunday in Tijuana, Mexico.
Shoji was credited with 53 digs and 57 receptions for Team USA, which finished 3-5, 15th overall. He had an average of 1.66 digs per set in 32 sets.
Shoji is the son of Hawaii women's volleyball coach Dave.
Maciejewski saves Seasiders
Freshman Adam Maciejewski scored a goal seven minutes into overtime to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's soccer team over Chico State 2-1 yesterday in Laie.
Junior Shawn Blymiller tied the game for BYUH with a goal in the 35th minute. The second half was scoreless.
The Seasiders face Embry Riddle Aeronautical University at 10 a.m. on Labor Day in Laie.
