Restaurant icons in line for honors
A dozen of Hawaii's old-time restaurateurs will be honored Sept. 17 when the Hawaii Restaurant Association inaugurates its Hall of Fame.
The first inductees were selected from among food industry leaders who gained prominence before 1960.
These "legacy inductees" are:
» Roy and Jane Asato, Wisteria Restaurant.
» Charlie and Frank Higa, Zippy's Restaurants.
» David Hill, Canlis Restaurant.
» Tosh Kaneshiro, Columbia Inn.
» Nagamine Family, Flamingo Chuckwagon.
» Dick Rodby, Kemoo Farms.
» Arthur Salisbury, Jolly Roger.
» Albert Schmid, Dillingham Executive Dining Room.
» Spence Weaver, Spencecliff Restaurants.
» Andrew Wong, Orson's.
A celebratory dinner will feature food stations by chefs Sam Choy, Fred DeAngelo, Peter Merriman, Nawai Kekoolani, Russell Siu, Khamton Tanchaleun and Alan Wong.
Cost is $200, with tables for 10 available for $1,500 and $3,000, to benefit the restaurant association's culinary scholarship program.

Join 'Dog' at Frog's for Meals benefit
Señor Frog's Honolulu, in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, hosts a grand opening on Wednesday to benefit Hawaii Meals on Wheels.
The event, 7 p.m. to midnight, will feature music by Vaihi and Ooklah the Moc, plus an appearance by Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman. Drink and pupu specials, a mariachi band and prize giveaways will also be part of the night.

Tequila will flavor Compadres entrees
Compadres Bar & Grill's annual Tequila Festival begins Saturday, ending Sept. 16 with a celebration of Mexican Independence Day.
Chef Raul Puga will offer daily specials, all made with signature tequilas. Oyster shots made with Patron Silver will be available daily along with "Blow Out Tequila Festival Shots."

Australian wines are in spotlight
The Australian wines of Mollydooker will be featured in a dinner Sept. 7 at Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas in Restaurant Row.
Winemakers Sparky and Sarah Marquis will present seven of their new releases, along with three dinner courses by chefs Hiroshi Fukui and Keith Endo.
Cost is $75. Seatings are at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. Call 533-4476.
The adjoining Vino wine bar will feature several Mollydooker wines by the glass that evening.
