Hawaii has signed Bill Amis, a 6-foot-8 forward who shot 53 percent for Pratt (Kan.) Community College last season, Rainbow Warriors basketball coach Bob Nash announced yesterday. Amis joins the 'Bows for the upcoming 2007-08 season and has three years of eligibility left.

Amis' junior college team went 24-8 last season and he helped Putnam City High -- Matt Gibson's alma mater in Oklahoma City -- to a 6A state championship his senior year.

"Bill attended a camp this summer for the top junior college players and he stood out among the best," Nash said. Nash praised Amis' athleticism, ballhandling and transition game. The coach said Amis has grown almost three inches since high school.

The late addition makes Nash's first recruiting effort as head coach a class of seven -- five scholarship players and two invited walk-ons.

Nash also announced that reserve center Todd Follmer will not return to the team. Follmer averaged 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds last season.
