Richard Bell secured two dragon boats at Ala Moana Beach Park on Saturday. The ornate vessels were being used by 35 teams to compete in the 10th Annual Hawaii Dragon Boat Festival races over the weekend as part of a community gathering bringing Hawaii's corporate businesses, Chinese societies and military personnel together. The races are part of a Chinese tradition dating back more than 2,000 years to ward off evil spirits and bring peace.
