Castle fund supports mobile health center
The
Howard K.L. Castle Foundation has awarded $10,000 to the
Waikiki Health Center to support its Care-A-Van program to provide medical and social services to homeless Windward Coast residents. The vans, staffed with a nurse and two outreach workers, see 20 to 40 patients at parks, streets and beaches.
American Savings Bank has awarded Chaminade University a $10,000 grant to help its Sullivan Family Library laptop computer program now under construction. The grant was made through the Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation.
The Makawao Hongwanji Mission has received $10,000 from the Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation for its 100th Anniversary Capital Improvement Project. The funds will be used to refurbish the mission's altar and to renovate its facilities.
New members of the board of directors of the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, include Peggy Cha, chancellor, Kauai Community College; Ted Dixon, publisher, Hawaii Tribune-Herald; Fred Galdones, president, ILWU Local 142; Brian Halsey, Hawaii market manager, Wal-Mart Stores; Ed Hubennette, vice president for Japan, Hawaii and the South Pacific, Marriott International; and Kitty Lagareta, chairwoman and CEO, Communications Pacific.
