THE SEVEN WONDERS OF HAWAII

What’s wonderful to you?

Star-Bulletin staff / features@starbulletin.com

The Seven Ancient Wonders of the World were selected in the B.C. years, mainly as a guide for tourists of the time. Which was all well and good, but nearly all the wonders have since collapsed. Only the Pyramids of Giza can still be seen by human eyes.

So a Swiss nonprofit organization launched a search for the New Seven Wonders of the World, based on international telephone and online voting. Results were announced last month.

And that was all well and good, too. But we've got some pretty wonderful things here in Hawaii, too -- it's time we got our own list on record.

Today the Star-Bulletin begins a search for the Seven Wonders of Hawaii. We'll collect your ideas through August, then have them evaluated and narrowed down by a panel of local experts. In October we'll be back with the top suggestions, and you'll be able to vote for the Top 7.

It'll be fun and educational and will provide food for thought about what makes Hawaii the special place that it is. And those who participate will be eligible to win $50 restaurant gift certificates, which will go to five people through a random drawing.
