MEET THE AUTHOR
'Voice of Books' to offer writing commentary at UH
Author Alan Cheuse, the "Voice of Books" on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," will present a free talk, "Pacific Overtures: Images of Hawaii and the South Pacific in American Fiction," 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
He will also present a noncredit writing workshop, "Scene Making," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, focusing on the elements that make up a narrative thread.
Cheuse is the author of several novels, including "The Grandmothers' Club" and "The Light Possessed"; three collections of short stories; a memoir; and a collection of essays.
His lecture is part of the Sakamaki lecture and film series and will take place in the Yukiyoshi Room, Krauss Hall 012. Call 956-8246.
