Organ recital spans generations
An internationally known organist will join local church musicians in the performance of classical and sacred music at an Aug. 21 Midsummer Night Organ Concert.
Frederick Swann, former organist at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., and Riverside Church in New York, will be guest performer at the event sponsored by the Hawaii chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
The 7 p.m. concert at Central Union Church, 1660 S. Beretania St., will also feature John Renke and John McCreary of St. Andrew's Cathedral, Katherine Crosier of Lutheran Church of Honolulu and Nyle Hallman and Margaret Lloyd of Central Union Church.
"From Generation to Generation" is the theme of the annual benefit show, reflecting the several generations of performers, who will also include McCreary's grandson Jordan McCreary, 11, and Joey Fala, 16, both recipients of music tuition scholarships from the Donald Conover Scholarship Fund.
Voluntary donations will be accepted to support the organist guild's scholarship program.
Accuracy of Bible to be discussed
The historical accuracy of biblical accounts about Jesus will be the topic of talks next weekend at International Baptist Church, 20 Dowsett Ave.
Hawaii-born Patrick Zukeran, a conference speaker with Texas-based Probe Ministries, will be the speaker at the Christian apologetics conference for college students and young adults. A graduate of Iolani School and Dallas Theological Seminary, Zukeran is a conference speaker, author and Dallas Christian radio show host.
"Thriving in a Man-Centered World with a God-Centered Belief" is the theme of the conference. He will speak at 7 p.m. Friday on "World views of the existence of God and historical reliability of the gospels," and at 6 p.m. next Saturday on "Resurrection: fact or fiction?"
