Women's group awards scholarships
The Honolulu Chapter of Executive Women International awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to seven high school students and five participants in its Adult Students in Scholastic Transition program.
The winners are Alyssa Tsuchiya, Kaiser High; Alexia Kwok, McKinley; Trinity Nguyen, Aiea; Kevin Donahue, Saint Louis; Nathan Nakatsuka, Kamehameha; Christopher Burniske, Punahou; and Reyn Halford, Mid-Pacific Institute. Adult winners include Charlotte Naone, Lisa Castro, Lori Ilima Santos, Janelle Taua, Florentina Kobuke and Kealoha Tauaefa.
The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii's Corporate Council for the Environment received more than $250,000 in donations from more than 100 local businesses.
Companies that donated $10,000-plus included Alexander & Baldwin, Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., Maui Land & Pineapple, the Shidler Family Foundation and the Westin Maui Resort & Spa.
Donations of $5,000 to $9,000 came from First Hawaiian Bank, ABC Stores (Kosasa Foundation), Bank of Hawaii, the Cades Foundation (Cades Schutte), Haleakala Ranch Co., Kuki'o, Kukui'ula Development Co. and the Maryl Group Inc.
Grove Farm Company Inc. and the First Insurance Co. of Hawaii Ltd. each gave $5,000.
