Anti-smoking group receives $82,000
The
American Legacy Foundation, whose mission is to prevent young people from smoking and to help all smokers quit, awarded $82,000 to
Papa Ola Lokahi to help fight tobacco use in the native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander communities.
Kaimuki High science teacher Jami Muranaka represented Hawaii as one of 10 Teachers of the Year from across the Pacific at the recent 24th annual Pacific Educational Conference in Honolulu.
Dr. Mark Brasher, an adjunct faculty member at Chaminade University, was appointed to the Hawaii State Ethics Commission. Brasher, who started at Chaminade in 1997, has taught various philosophy courses, including ethics.
The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui selected Claire Fukuoka, Cari Ann Honda, and Jennifer Matsumoto as winners of $1,000 scholarships. All recent graduates of Baldwin High School. Fukuoka attends the University of Portland in Oregon, Honda is at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Matsumoto attend the University of San Diego.
Saint Louis School received the "Triple Crown" of accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Western Catholic Education Association, and the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.
