7 elected to UH sports' fundraising board
'Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the nonprofit fundraising partner of the University of Hawaii's athletics department, elected seven new board members:
Dawn Dunbar of American Savings Bank;
Kenny Harrison of ESPN 1420-AM;
Dean Hirata of Central Pacific Financial Corp./Central Pacific Bank;
Peter Ho of Bank of Hawaii;
Howard Ikeda of Ikeda and Wong, CPA;
Micah Kane of the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands; and
John Reed of Hilo Hattie.
Jami Muranaka represented Hawaii as one of 10 Teachers of the Year from across the Pacific at the recent 24th annual Pacific Educational Conference in Honolulu.
The University of Hawaii has named Roy Hanzawa the 2007 recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in Buildings and Grounds Maintenance. As the sole groundskeeper at Waikiki Aquarium, he has turned its lawn into a "green oasis" in Kapiolani Park, according to professional landscape gardeners and residents.
At Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Rose Shin was appointed employment services director in charge of the organization's new Immigration Service program and other services. Susan Smyre was promoted to community services director and will manage services for at-risk youth and the ex-offender population.
