Man finds roommate killed
Police want help from the public in finding a suspect in the Moiliili fatal shooting
A 27-year-old woman was found shot to death yesterday morning in her Moiliili apartment and police are asking for the public's help in finding the killer.
The woman, whose identity was not confirmed by police last night, was found dead with a gunshot wound to her lower chest about 7:50 a.m. in her King Terrace apartment, at 2920 S. King St.
Police said the woman's male roommate found her lifeless and called police. She and her roommate lived in unit 6 on the second floor of the three-story building.
"It's a murder case right now," said Honolulu police Lt. Bill Kato.
The woman was likely shot sometime between 9:30 Friday night and 1:30 yesterday morning, he said. Anyone in the area who may have heard an argument or a gun shot at that time is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
Police took her roommate in for questioning, but later released him, saying he was not a suspect.
A handgun was found in the apartment, and police were investigating whether it was connected to the case.
According to a neighbor, the woman had moved into the apartment about six months ago, while her roommate has lived there for about a year.
The neighbor, who declined to give his name, said residents had complained to the landlord about the tenants' visitors, who would come and go late at night.
Khin Nyunt, 53, who lives two doors down from the victim's apartment, said the residents in the building are usually quiet. "I just surprised" by the shooting, said Nyunt.
