Dixie Grill to close for renovations

The flagship location of Dixie Grill Bar-b-que & Crab Shack on Ward Avenue will close after service on Sunday for extensive renovations, owner Ed Wary said yesterday.

"Dixie Grill in Aiea continues to be our most popular site for barbecue, ribs, crab, New Orleans specialties and Screamin' Mai Tais," Wary said in a written statement.

"The Ward Avenue location will be renovated and re-artifacted prior to reopening in the fall with its new look and new menu."

There has been talk within the industry that Wary will change the name and concept of the restaurant, but Wary's statement only confirmed a new look and new menu.

No employees will lose their jobs or benefits, Wary said in an interview.

In the meantime, Wary is preparing for the opening of his other restaurant chain, Auntie Pasto's, on Maui. It is to debut this month in the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center, joining its sister restaurants on South Beretania Street and Kunia Shopping Center.
