Downtown gallery walk
Smith-Beretania Park in Chinatown will be aglow with paper lanterns and the music of Japan when the Art Board, Hawaii Eisa Shinyuu Kai and the ARTS at Marks Garage stage a bon dance during First Friday.

Other highlights will include Okinawan Shisa dog dances at the Art Board, the ARTS at Marks Garage and the park, and a screening of a Japanese samurai movie by Hi-Fi Hawaii at 6:30 p.m. at 1170 Nuuanu Ave. Various galleries will feature Asian music, entertainment, food, arts and crafts.
Visitors to the gallery walk should don traditional Asian dress to take advantage of special promotions at participating venues. Internet Solutions Team, for instance, will offer free phone service to China, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan from their booth at 1170 Nuuanu Ave.
Elsewhere on First Friday: NextDoor hosts performances by the Cherry Blossom cabaret dancers from 6 to 9 p.m.; Dawn Lundquist shows her oils at the Kim Taylor Reece Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 9 p.m.; and the usual plethora of happenings at Ong King Arts Center, including paintings by Pancho and Mark Boneham, hip-hop theater by HIP-HOpaLYPSe, music by Tempo Valley, dance by Giinko Maraschino and kung fu antics by Bad Sushi, a clothing and wearable-weapons store that just opened in the area.
