Ching scores to lead Dynamo
HOUSTON » Brian Ching scored in the 50th minute, and the Houston Dynamo beat D.C. United 1-0 last night to advance to the SuperLiga semifinals.
Houston meets Mexico's Pachuca in the semifinals on Aug. 14. D.C. United needed a loss by Morelia against Club America later yesterday to advance to a semifinal matchup at the Los Angeles Galaxy on Aug. 15.
The teams were playing for the third time this season. In two Major League Soccer games, D.C. United won 2-1 in Washington and Dynamo won 1-0 in Houston.
Ching took a pass from Nate Jaqua and scored from 18 yards.
Stuart Holden's shot from 15 yards, which hit a post in the 36th minute, was the closest either team came to scoring in the first half.
Suyetsugu leads women's stroke play
Rainbow Wahine golfer Xyra Suyetsugu shot an even-par 72 to take a three-stroke lead after yesterday's second round of the 2007 Hawaii State Amateur Women's Stroke-Play Championship at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Suyetsugu's UH teammate Lisa Kajihara and Nicole Sakamoto were tied for second heading into today's final round.

Treschuk earns all-week honor
Moanalua and Honolulu Bulls alumnus Kenji Treschuk was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for the first time Tuesday. He earned the honor for an outstanding midfield performance in the Seattle Sounders' 2-2 tie with Vancouver last Friday.
HPU tennis signs Mathews
Hawaii Pacific has signed Kapiolani Community College product Samantha Mathews for the 2008 tennis season.
Mathews played her high school tennis at American School in Lansing, Ill.
Pearl City juniors win at LL regional
Pearl City won its opening game yesterday at the Junior League (Little League, ages 13-14) West Region tournament at Beaverton, Ore.
Pearl City beat Northern California 6-2 thanks in part to a three-run sixth inning. Pearl City plays Oregon today in pool play. The tournament runs through Aug. 9, with the winner advancing to the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Mich.
» Hilo American/National Little League started out 2-0 in pool play in the Senior League West Regional at Salem, Ore, beating Alaska 10-1 and Arizona 11-1.
