Chaminade receives $10,000 award
Alexander & Baldwin Foundation awarded $10,000 to
Chaminade University for the partial funding of a comparison macroscope for Chaminade's Forensic Sciences program.
Such a macroscope will allow students to compare separate objects or slides and be able to record information onto a computer.
The Salvation Army received $150,000 from the Friends of Hawaii Charities to help build the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Kapolei, which will cost in excess of $100 million to construct. The initial $80 million came from the estate of Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. The center will serve at-risk families in West Oahu.
The Maui High School team of Brandon Sato and Dustin Texeira won 10th place in the national finals of the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. The competition encourages students to pursue automotive careers, a release said.
Ford and AAA distributed more than $6 million in prizes to contestants.
