Ching, Oride lead locals at Junior Worlds

Hawaii golfers Alex Ching and Cory Oride tied for 24th in the boys 15-17 division at the Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego.

Ching and Oride finished the tournament with four-round totals of 13-over 301. Bradley Shigezawa finished 31st at 303 and TJ Kua placed 39th at 305.

Britney Yada finished 32nd in the girls 15-17 division at 316.

HPU signs Kalani's Takahashi

Kalani graduate Micah Takahashi has signed with the Hawaii Pacific University baseball team. Takahashi, who helped the Falcons reach the state tournament in May, will pitch for the Sea Warriors.

Hawaii surfers advance at Lost Pro

Hawaii's Kai Barger and Tyler Newton won their first-round heats in the Lost Pro Junior to advance in the Association of Surfing Professionals event for surfers 20 and under in Huntington Beach, Calif.

The event is being held in conjuction with the trials for the Honda U.S. Open of Surfing. Granger Larsen, Wesley Larsen, Josh Fuller and Raymond Reichle moved on in the trials.
