TRANSPAC 2007
2 boats drop out of Transpac
The light winds that frustrated the crews in the 44th Transpacific Yacht Race led two crews to drop out of the race yesterday.
Delicate Balance and Lucky Dog, both in Division 4, dropped out before reaching the halfway point of the race from California to Hawaii.
In Division 1, Pyewacket was able to find enough of a breeze to report covering 336 miles at yesterday morning's roll call at an average speed of 14 knots.
Pyewacket would have to pick up the pace to about 18 knots over the final 1,240 miles to challenge the race record set by Morning Glory two years ago.
Leaders as of yesterday's report were Magnitude 80 (Division 1), Holua (Division 2), Denali (Division 3), Reinrag2 (Division 4), Kokopelli 2 (Division 50/52), Rancho Deluxe (Division 5), Far Far (Division 6), Ariadne (Aloha A) and Cirrus (Aloha B).
