Kapalua to host LPGA tournament
The Kapalua Resort has added an LPGA tournament to its calendar and one of women's golf's rising stars to its staff.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association announced that The Bay Course will host the $1.5 million Kapalua LPGA Classic in October 2008.
The 72-hole tournament will be the third Hawaii event for the tour to go along with February's SBS Open at Turtle Bay and the Fields Open in Hawaii, held at Ko Olina.
The resort, which annually hosts the PGA Tour's Mercedes Benz Championship at the Plantation Course, is in the process of selecting a title sponsor for the Kapalua Classic.
Kapalua also announced that Morgan Pressel, who won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April, will be the resort's official LPGA touring professional.
Pressel, 18, is the youngest player in LPGA history to win a major and has six top-10 finishes this year. She's sixth in the Rolex Women's World Golf rankings and will represent the resort at LPGA tournaments, including the Kapalua Classic next year.
"I am extremely honored to be an ambassador for Kapalua Resort, one of the world's premier resorts," Pressel said. "I am proud of my association with one of the most recognizable and respected brands in the world of golf."
