Kimberly Kim tied for Junior PGA lead
Former Pahoa resident Kimberly Kim enters today's final round of the Westfield Junior PGA Championship tied atop the leaderboard with 12-year-old Alexis Thompson.
Kim, the reigning U.S. Women's Amateur champion, shot a 2-under-par 69 yesterday for a three-round total of 1-over 214. She entered the third round with a one-stroke lead but was caught by Thompson, who carded four birdies on the back nine on her way to a 5-under 66.
Kim, a 15-year-old who now lives in Arizona, parred her first 11 holes yesterday before going on a run of three straight birdies on holes 12 to 14. She closed the round with her lone bogey of the day.
Kristina Merkle of Honolulu bounced back from an 80 on Thursday to shoot even-par 71 yesterday. She is 29th at 15 over.
In the boys division, former Kaimuki student Chan Kim carded a 70 and is tied for 15th at 3 over.
