State champ on to U.S. Amateur
Anna Jang, the current high school state golf champion, shot a 1-under 71 yesterday to win the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifying Tournament at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Punahou junior, 15, earns a spot in the Aug. 6-12 field at Crooked Stick Golf Club along with Waikoloa's Tammy Surtees, who finished second in the qualifier with a 78.
Stephanie Kono is in the first alternate spot. Maui's Kelcie Kawano, who finished second to Jang in a playoff for the individual title at the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA state meet in May, is the second alternate.
CORP to host synchro U.S. Open
Oahu will host the 2007 U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships July 15-21 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Complex at Central Oahu Regional Park.
The U.S. Junior National Team headlines the event, but there will be an elite international field and club teams from across the United States -- including the Hawaii Synchro Club, coached by former national team members Lisa Velez and Lianne Cameron-Vrielink.
