Driver, 22, arrested after crash kills woman
Police arrested a suspect in a a hit-and-run crash yesterday that killed a 39-year-old Waianae woman yesterday morning about 5:30 a.m. on Farrington Highway in Makaha.
The incident occurred 129 feet from Lahilahi Street, where the woman was riding her bicycle along Farrington Highway, police said. A gray 2006 Honda veered off the road and hit her from behind, police said.
She was thrown from her bicycle and suffered severe head injuries. The victim was taken to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where she was pronounced dead. Police said she was not wearing a helmet. The Medical Examiner identified the victim as Correena Medeiros.*
The driver, 22, fled the scene but witnesses gave police enough information to find and arrest him for alleged negligent homicide, and alleged failure to render aid and suspicion of drunken driving.
