New Media puts women in control
Last of two parts
Once you understand the natural differences (other than physical) between men and women, you'll want new-media marketing as your key strategy to getting the word out about your business.
Martha Barletta, author of Marketing to Women, points out that men prefer to occupy a pyramid, whereas women prefer to occupy a peer group. That's why online social-networking groups like MySpace, Ryze and eCademy are growing in popularity with women; bringing the businesswomen who participate in these groups more fans and repeat buyers for their products and services.
Today, the business owner can go directly to her clients, finding them through social networks. You can easily identify the types of clients who would love your product or service through their online profile, the networks they belong to, and the blogs in which they actively participate.
One of women's highest values is a feeling of closeness and connection with another person. Web 2.0 allows women to fulfill this need and make more money at the same time. Work-at-home moms are no longer at a disadvantage in expanding their networking. A work-at-home mom can have more friends and clients than anyone sitting in their store, waiting for the next person to walk through the door.
At last, the female customer can be in total control of the sales transaction. Previously, a woman had to meet at a person's office to decide whether or not she wanted to do business with him. If she didn't like where the conversation was going, she was forced to endure listening to the rest of the sales pitch before walking out. Now, she can click on a video on someone's site, listen to a podcast, read a blog post and decide for herself -- without ever introducing herself unless she wants to. This puts women in control like never before -- and saves time!
Men who used to use scare tactics or intimidation to get women to buy now have to adapt to the new-media landscape - or get left behind.
One major difference that gives women a huge advantage over their male competitors online is that because women desire conversations to connect with people, they are statistically better sales professionals. Men are highly visual, and are influenced by what they see not what is said.
Now you can control how your prospects and clients see you. With artistic effects on photo and video editing software, everyone can look good -- regardless of the minor flaws we try to hide when meeting people face-to-face. New-media marketing is definitely a woman's world.
