The community event, held in Waimanalo last month, welcomed the public to try their hand at creating ceramic art, while also inviting serious artists to contribute their work. The subsequent show of contemporary and traditional raku pieces at Marks was juried by Rob Drexel.

Friday's celebration at the gallery features pot throwing by raku artists Daven Hee and Aaron Padilla at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., as well as a violin performance by multitalented 12-year-old raku artist Blaise Tesoro at 6:30 p.m.

Raku Ho'olaulea will be on exhibit through July 14. The ARTS at Marks Garage is located at 1159 Nuuanu Ave. Call 521-2903.
