Pacific Science Association elects Lewis
Nancy Lewis, director of the East-West Center's Research Program, has been elected vice president of the Pacific Science Association, the oldest interdisciplinary science organization in the Asia-Pacific region (formed in 1920). She most recently served as PSA's secretary-general and treasurer.
Damien Memorial High School junior Christopher Ballesteros finished eighth out of 454 contestants in the National Forensic League's Impromptu Speaking championships in Wichita, Kan., in June. Ballesteros has won the past two state titles in this category. He also was part of the winning Public Forum Debate team with Brack Duvall, also a junior, finishing in the top 20 out of 230 teams.
Daniel Hong, a ninth-grader at McKinley High School, won first place in the seventh-to-ninth-grade category of the national Dow AgroSciences-Lilly BioDreaming Poster Competition. More than 400 students in grades K-12 from 32 states created illustrations to depict the promise and achievements of biotechnology.
Market City Foundation has awarded $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors Courtney Gaddis of Kalani High School and Andrew Gines of Saint Louis School.
