Taylor 'breathing on her own'
Janevia Taylor started "breathing on her own" yesterday, 10 days after suffering serious injuries in a car accident in California. But the former University of Hawaii basketball player remained in an induced coma yesterday, UH coach Jim Bolla said.
"The doctors aren't saying anything one way or another," said Bolla, who is in daily contact with Taylor's family. "But she was on a ventilator and now she's breathing on her own."
Taylor suffered trauma to her head and internal injuries in the June 23 accident. Doctors induced the coma to make necessary surgeries possible.
A fund has been set up at First Hawaiian Bank to help defray Taylor's medical expenses. She and her family have no health insurance.
Donations may be made at any branch or mailed to: Friends of Janevia Taylor, c/o First Hawaiian Bank, 2764 Woodlawn Dr., Honolulu, HI. Checks may be made out to Friends of Janevia Taylor.
"Pat (Charity, UH assistant coach) was at the bank (Monday) and they said they had a whole bunch of letters for Janevia they were getting ready to open," Bolla said.

Well-wishers may also write to Taylor and her family at 44046 Bogard Ct., Lancaster, CA 93536.
Trapasso camps coming up
Kids looking to improve their hitting, pitching and catching directly from University of Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso have two opportunities this month.
Players ages 7 to 18 can attend a three-day specialty camp on either July 17-19 or July 27-29 at 1 to 4 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium to receive direct feedback from Trapasso and his staff.
It's $120 to attend only the hitting or pitching/catching portions of the sessions, and $200 for both. Contact the UH baseball office at 956-6247 for more information.
