Lynne Johnson chairs Academy board
The Honolulu Academy of Arts has appointed
Lynne Johnson as chairwoman of its board of trustees, replacing Samuel Cooke, who served for 16 years. Johnson was elected a trustee in 2003 and is a direct descendant of Academy founder Anna Charlotte Rice Cooke.
Architects Hawaii Ltd. celebrated its 60th anniversary recently with a $60,000 gift to the University of Hawaii School of Architecture. The endowment fund will support the Practicum Program in which students work with a firm in Asia or on the mainland for one semester, and with a Hawaii firm for another semester.
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs gave $80,000 to Parents and Children Together to help develop native Hawaiian-based curriculum.
The Hawaii People's Fund awarded nine grants, totaling nearly $25,000, to these groups: Drug Policy Forum of Hawaii; Mala 'Ai Opio Organic Farm; Pohaku o Kane; Maui's Filipino Working Group; Hawaii Island's He Ola Hou o Ke Kumu Niu; Honolulu Habitat for Humanity's Lanai project; Oahu organizations Paumalu Press and Street Beat; and Kyabaan Association Inc. in the Philippines.
