Mystery writer cooks up plots

Jerrilyn Farmer is a mystery writer who also loves food, and has combined those interests in her seven mystery novels about Los Angeles caterer Madeline Bean.

In 2005, Bean visited Hawaii in "The Flaming Luau of Death" (Harper Collins). This time the author visits, for a round of free presentations at public libraries, "Delicious Murders: Mystery Writing 101," covering the basics of writing your own mystery.

Her schedule:

Sunday: 2 p.m., Kaneohe

Monday: 6:30 p.m., Mililani

Tuesday: Noon, Hawaii State Library and 6:30 p.m., Kapolei

Next Wednesday: 2 p.m., Waikiki-Kapahulu

July 12: 6:30 p.m., McCully-Moiliili
